CLIMATE

Sheltered in a beautiful valley, Cañon City features a mild and hospitable climate year round. Cañon City is said to be in the banana belt of Colorado, seeing very few days of extreme weather each year. The warm days are cooled by temperate evenings. Snowfall is usually light and quickly melts under the warm Colorado sunshine that prevails over 325 days a year. Humidity remains comfortably low throughout the year. "Indian Summer" reaches long into the fall, with warm, sunny days and cool, pleasant nights. Cañon City is a wonderful environment for visitors to enjoy the many amazing choices the area has to offer.

ALTITUDE TIPS: Cañon City is situated at an altitude of 5,340 feet. High altitude has its benefits. Our bodies will use more calories and burn more fat. But for lowland travelers who are new to our area, altitude can produce some unusual sensations such as dizziness, nausea, and headaches. Here are a few tips to keep anyone traveling at high altitude a little more comfortable.

Limit alcohol intake. Alcohol binds oxygen and water and robs your body of these two important nutrients.

Drink more water. Higher up, the air is drier and your body will dehydrate much quicker. The higher up you go, the more water you should drink.

The effects of some drugs, such as tranquilizers, can be greatly accentuated at higher altitudes. Be sure to check with your doctor first before exerting yourself at a higher altitude.

Get plenty of rest, and enjoy yourself. If you don't overdo it, a great time can be had at any altitude.
